BNSF's westbound Denver-Provo is currently stopped and holding in the siding at Yarmony. The westbound Zephyr is approaching Yarmony from the east and will overtake the Denver-Provo here at Yarmony.

Two DPUs bring up the tail end of a westbound (soon to be southbound) coal load. The train, still on the Brush Sub, just crossed UP's Greeley Sub at the diamond at Sand Creek.

If you follow the website, then you likely now that MRL SD70ACe have become a fairly common sight on the Moffat in the aftermath of BNSF's acquisition of MRL at the start of 2025. This morning, it is MRL 4303, third out from the head end. Unfortunately, MRL did not have PTC, meaning their SD70ACes are not PTC equipped. As a result, it is unlikely that an MRL unit will ever lead on the Moffat.

In the early 2000s, it was quite common for UP to tie coal trains down in the siding at Leyden (amongst other sidings). To help simplify the process, UP installed hand-throw derails on certain sidings. The east end of Leyden is one such siding. As you can see here, the derail is aligned in the derail position as the Provo-Denver is currently tied down and waiting for a crew.

Four units leads BNSF's Provo-Denver, currently tied down on the siding here at Leyden. Leyden has been used for long term storage of cars frequently in the last two years, and this is the first time I've seen a train tied down here in years.

A trio of DPUs bring up the tail end of a (roughly) 6,000 foot long oil train. There are piles of ties scattered along the right-of-way that will soon be installed as part of the massive maintenance project UP is currently running on the Moffat. This is likely to be the last train until the eastbound Zephyr this afternoon, giving work crews the time they need on the main.

Three units lead an eastbound BNSF oil train on the straightaway along CO-72 just west of Leyden. The train is, of course, headed downhill, but there is still a lot of heat coming off the top of the units (distorting the air above) thanks to the dynamic brakes workings to slow the train.

DS-378 originally planned to take this BNSF oil train down to the main at Eisele (Clay) to meet the westbound Zephyr. However, it was a bit slow coming down the hill, so it is going to stop on the main here at Plain and wait on the Zephyr, which is currently at Big Ten.

An eastbound BNSF oil train rolls through Rainbow Cut on the main at Plain. It is actually slowing and it will come to a stop as soon as the end of the train clears the west switch. It'll wait here for the westbound Zephyr.

You might recall that for decades, Amtrak did haul mail on long distance trains. In the 1990s and early 2000s, Amtrak tried to help supplement revenue by hauling bulk mail and packages as well. Such things were hauled in box cars painted in Amtrak's Phase 4 scheme. Amtrak stopped the service in October 2004 as it was not actually generating a profit, and was delaying passenger trains due to freight moves at certain stations. The rolling stock was sold, and one such former Amtrak boxcar happened to be on this Provo-Denver today.

The eastbound Provo-Denver passes through the high/wide detector at MP 8.4. The detector ensure that nothing is sticking out from the train that might strike a tunnel or tunnel wall. No defects this morning as the train continues toward Denver.

It's been awhile since I've seen a DC-unit (C44-9W specifically) leading one of BNSF's manifests on the Moffat. However, a Heritage 2 C44-9W just happens to be on the point of this eastbound Provo-Denver this morning.

Three units lead BNSF's Provo-Denver, per the usual, as it wraps through the S-Curve in the middle of Arvada, just east of 66th Avenue. Despite it being early November and there being a lot of windy days this week, a lot of trees still have their leaves here.

Most of the fall colors have faded to fairly dull colors and leafless trees in Arvada as BNSF's Provo-Denver rolls eastbound out of Leyden. A mild fall with no appreciable snow has resulted in a still-bare Long's Peak off in the distance.
