This is why I was shocked to come across the unit auto making its way up the eastern slope of Soldier Summit on this fall afternoon. I believe the auto racks had been tied down in a siding in the desert and were being placed back in service. The three units on the point were added in Helper (and would be removed at Colton) as front-end helpers to climb the 2.5% grade.
