Happy passengers! The first leg of the day's journey is nearly complete as the Front Range Explorer, a specially chartered train, rolls north past the siding of Speer toward Cheyenne. There, a BNSF Pilot will board the train for the continued trip north. The train will run up the Orin Subdivision through the Powder River Basin and ultimately tie up in Gillette, WY for the night.

Riding in style! These passengers have been sitting on the open vestibule for most of the trip from Denver up to Cheyenne. Not that I blame them...that is likely exactly where I'd be sitting as well if I were on the train.

We are about four miles north of the Colorado/Wyoming border as the Front Range Explorer glides by on the main track at Speer. In the distance, you can just see a few cars on I-25, which the train just passed beneath.

Now in Wyoming, the Front Range Explorer pulls through the south switch of Speer. This siding is relatively short and seldomly used. In the distance, you can see tracks on a bridge. This is UP's Greeley Sub, which the BNSF Front Range Sub crosses underneath.
