A look at the passenger side of RPCX 804, an F7A that is on its way to the Inland Northwest Railroad Museum in Reardon, WA. This is one of 35 F7As that have managed to avoid the scrapper and have been preserved out of the 3,856 originally built (2,393 F7As + 1,463 F7Bs). That's just under 1% of F7s, just under 1.5% of F7As that have been preserved. Anyway, the F7A was the 84th "car" in BNSF's HDENLAU this morning.

BNSF's Denver-Laurel has a special piece of equipment in the consist today! This F7A, which has changed hands through several different railroads in its 73 years, is headed for the Inland Northwest Railroad Museum in Reardon, WA. Hopefully, once there, it will eventually be restored to its originally Spokane, Portland, and Seattle paint scheme. In the meantime, it was nice seeing it as a "car" 84 cars deep in the consist of this 8,700-foot train.

It's rather incredible to think that there was a time many decades ago when F-units were the start power on freight trains, and would have been common place in locations such as here at the north end of North Yard on the BNSF Front Range Sub! This F7 was delivered to the SP&S in 1953, and is now headed back to Washington to the Inland Northwest Railroad Museum. Hopefully, it'll be restored in its SP&S paint.

How is this for a rare catch! An EMD F7 with Minnesota Zephyr livery is headed to the Inland Northwest Railroad Museum in Reardon, WA. The unit was delivered to the Spokane, Portland, and Seattle Railway in 1953. It then, of course, went to Burlington Northern's roster after the merger in 1970. BN sold it to the Cadillac and Lake City Railway, which then sold it to the Colorado and Eastern Railway. It then wound up in the hands of the Minnesota Zephyr in Stillwater, MN, a tourist operation. That operation ended in 2008, and the unit went to the San Luis and Rio Grande. Finally, the unit was sold (or donated) to the museum in Reardon and is making its way there on BNSF's HDENLAU (Denver-Laurel), seen here by UP's North Yard. The unit is now number RPCX 804. RPCX, incidentally, is the Railroad Passenger Car Numbering Bureau.
