On the northern edge of Boulder, this short two-car track geometry train is making good time up the Front Range Sub. The train is approaching 63rd Avenue, currently passing an office building that is not currently leased out to anyone.

On a beautiful October morning, a BNSF track geometry train makes its way north on the Front Range Sub along the Diagonal (between Boulder and Longmont). Along this stretch of track, the train is rapidly approaching at 47 miles per hour.

This "train" is slowing on the approach the Boulder as it passes the Valmont Reservoir. This is a track geometry train, used to check for defects in the track. The first car - Track Geometry Car #1 - actually performs the testing.

On a pleasant September morning, the southbound Laurel, MT to Denver manifest (HLAUDEN) makes its way south through Boulder. Although it was badly faded, it was still nice to see a warbonnet on the point.

The trains on the Front Range Sub are typically powered by C44-9W's in one of the orange BNSF schemes (H1, H2 or New Image). Every so often, though, you'll get a really unique consist on the point of a train. Such was the case here as two warbonnet SD75M's and a CEFX SD60 (of Soo heritage) lead the MDENLAU north out of Boulder.

When summer leaves, it leaves! The last day of summer saw clear skies and temperatures in the 70's and 80's. Two days later, temperatures are in the low 50's and it is raining. The northbound HDENLAU, with some nice power, is seen here racing north out of Boulder.

As I was coming out of work an getting into the car, I turned on the scanner an immediately heard a southbound getting a warrant at MP 35. The lead unit was BNSF 9798, so I though an SD70MAC would be a nice change of pace. Turns out I doubly surprised as two green and cream SD70MACs were the only power on the train, the Longmont Turn. The train is crossing 47th Avenue at MP 32, and I'm standing on the Foothills Parkway overpass.

I kind of liked the irony in this particular picture. You have Burlington Northern on one side coming together with Santa Fe on the other side to create a shiny new railroad, BNSF!

A slightly different perspective of Valmont for this HLAUDEN. I thought I'd hike down the hill from the top of Legion Park a ways to see what a shot looked like closer to the tracks and track-level. A bit of Dark Future mixed in with Pumpkins.

An ES44AC leads a coal empty north through Boulder on the mainline. Not too often on the Front Range Sub that you can get a shot of two coal trains meeting each other! Now granted, the train on the siding to the right has no power as the hoppers are loaded and waiting to head to Valmont. Close enough to a meet though.

Something is a comin' from the south! A BNSF coal empty being rerouted from the Brush Subdivision creeps into Boulder at 10 MPH. The train had three units (2x1), but even so, I think it was quite a pull coming up into Boulder.

The southbound Laurel to Denver manifest slowly passes Valmont as seen from Legion Park. The second unit is BNSF 638, a former ATSF Warbonnet and one of the few such Warbonnets that was repainted in the Heritage 2 scheme!

There is a nice view of the flatirons in the background as the Loram rail grinder makes it way north at Independence Road in Boulder. The work train is just north of MP 32 and the Foothills overpass is visible in the background.
