A rather long local, consisting largely of covered hoppers, sits on the main at Hazeltine, just north of 112th Avenue. The train is following another southbound, sitting between switches ahead on the main. The local is hanging out of the north end of the siding. Fortunately, nothing else is coming south at the moment.

A pair of SD70Ms leads a local south on the main at Hazeltine, the last siding north of Denver on the Greeley Sub. The train is currently stopped as a second train, a manifest, is stopped ahead of the local. They are both waiting on a northbound manifest that will take the siding.

A single UP ES44AC heads north through the through the siding at Brighton. I honestly have no clue where this lone unit was coming from or where it was headed! Part of a local? Off to rescue a train? Not sure. But the scene looks nice at sunset creeps closer and closer.

A local picks up a string of hoppers from an industry. Unfortunately, due to the location of the switch and the length of the train, the north switch at Brighton is blocked, preventing the coal empty on the siding from being able to continue north.

This coal empty was holding south of the siding of Brighton so as not to block grade crossing through town. When the southbound it was meeting showed up, the train pulled in to the siding. However, nobody informed the crew that the southbound is a local that is blocking the north end of the siding, preventing the coal empty from leaving! So the crossing in Brighton wound up blocked for over 30 minutes anyway.

A CP ES44AC and a KCS SD70ACe lead a northbound coal empty through the siding at Brighton, passing alongside a few yard tracks that currently lay empty. These hoppers were pulled from Jansen, CO on the Raton Sub near Trinidad.

A pair of SD70Ms serve as the power on a local that originated from La Salle earlier in the day. It is now stopped on the main at Brighton has the string of covered hoppers to the left need to be picked up by the local. The cars behind the power will be spotted in their place.

At the north switch of Brighton, UP 8832 has this auto rack train up to track speed, running on clear (green) signals. The train, which includes two heritage units, is heading north to Cheyenne, but ironically, its final destination is to the south in Laredo, TX.

After spending about 45 minutes putting their train together and running an air test, seven units lead this light auto rack train north on the Greeley Sub. In the foreground, an SUV passes by, likely unaware of the approaching train, on the E-470 toll road that partially loops around Denver.

Not too far east of the east switch of Barr, BNSF's Brush Sub traces the western edge of man-made Barr Lake. Passing by the lake is a pair of GEs leading BNSF's Lincoln, NE to Denver, CO manifest. The two units have just under 60 cars in tow.

A little worse for wear, this Warbonnet still doesn't look bad by any stretch of the imagination. The unit certainly did receive a rather unique patch job on the long hood! But I'll take that patch job over a patch on the cab done with contrasting colors any day.

An elevated view of a freshly rebuilt, freshly painted BNSF GP60M-3. This unit was rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen. Always great to get a picture of a freshly painted unit.

BNSF's Brush Subdivision follows a very a straight line for quite some time when leaving Denver. If you look on the left side of the frame, you can see the tall grain elevator that stands alongside the tracks near the diamond at Sand Creek. Here, nine units (three of them DIC) lead a manifest headed for Lincoln, NE.
