UP has a few of them available in storage at Burnham (in Denver). The units tend to be older and most have been sitting in Burnham for at least a year. There are many C40-8Ws here and there is a string of SD90MACs in the distance. There units are the true 6000 HP units developed in the late 1990's. The switch to the Kountry Line is located off the Joint Line about 3 miles south of 20th Street. Here, the crew ties down the local and prepares to wait for a ride. BNSF's Beer Run just got into the yard and will have to enter the OS here at the east end to cut some cars. Hence the reason for the manifest holding here. I'm a fan of the spartan cab (and these were some of the last spartan cabs produced by EMD), and I really like the blue and white scheme too. Granted they look a bit better in 1987 when they were new to the rails, but I'll always take advantage of two of them coupled together. I doubt their leases will last much longer... This GP40-2 was patched while on loan to the AAR test facility in Pueblo in May 2003. Even more recently, it received a full repaint. This is the only regularly scheduled non-coal train that runs on the KP. Here, the westbound MSIDV is less than a mile away from UP's 36th Street Yard. If and when the FasTracks initiative is completed, Light Rail will actually run along these three track (where the dirt is seen here). Currently, Light Rail runs right up to the back of the station.
