As the Ski Train backs into Union Station, the tail end of a BNSF business train sits on Track Three. The train arrived around mid-day (while the Ski Train was up in Fraser) for the Democratic National Convention. A UP bus is also visible in the distance on the right side of the picture.

When the Ski Train returned to Denver and was being wyed in BNSF's yard, I was surprised to find a pair of UP AC6044CW's sitting near the house. It turns out that these units were most recently used on the Valmont coal train. UP runs the train from the mines to Denver; BNSF runs the train from Denver to the power plant in Boulder. UP keeps two units on the train for the duration.

Once returning to Denver, the Ski Train has to borrow some trackage in BNSF's 31st Street Yard is order to back in Union Station. The train is on the main here, passing the coal train (Coal One and Coal Two), both of which are currently occupied.

At Utah Junction, the Ski Train ran through the North Yard siding to run around a westbound BNSF manifest holding Main Three at C&S Junction. Here is a shot looking back at the manifest as we pass it. The two tracks to the left (Main Two and Main One) go on the Belt Bypass to the Belt Industrial Lead.

It's not too often you get a track-level view from the diamond at 23rd Street. Here it is though, two BNSF northbound coal empties wait at red signals as the Ski Train passes in front of the them. A new isolated cab SD70ACe leads the train on the right.

During the summer runs, the Ski Train adds a "Bike Car" to the consist. This car has been converted to carry mountain bikes up to Winter Park (at no extra cost) so passengers can get some exercise for the day! Here, a Ski Train volunteer wheels a bike up the ramp toward the open door.

Union Pacific literally has a gift shop on wheels that it can take with it! The passenger car Sherman Hill has a large variety of merchandise inside. Here, the car is open to the public all week during the Democratic National Convention.

In preparation for the Democratic National Convention, Union Pacific has built a bridge between the vestibules of these two cars. More than likely, guests will be walking down through one set of cars, across the bridge, and back up.

Looks like this C44-9W has received a bit of body work! The unit was damaged in a derailment in early 2007. The body was fixed up easily enough, but it has yet to get a fresh paint job.
