UP 900082 leads the WDEDEF-31 east on the main track at Mesa. The Cheyenne-based rotary plow is headed east on the Limon Sub to help clear the track. Lots of blowing snow after the last two blizzard have buried some of the line in snow drifts!

UP 900082, the rotary plow that UP keeps and maintains in Cheyenne, departs 36th Street on the point of the WDEDEF-31. The plow will help dig through some snow drifts on the plains to help rescue some crews that are actually trapped on their trains, stuck in the snow. Although the plow itself is powered by diesel-electric, there is still a steam-powered heat system to make sure all the equipment remains defrosted!

Amtrak tries to keep a spare P42 on hand in Denver in case either Number 5 or Number 6 has a problem with one of their units when they arrive in town. Such is the case here with AMTK 25 sitting on a stub track in the foreground, while AMTK 91 leads Number 6 on Track One in the background.

Amtrak 6 waits at Denver Union Station for the last passengers to board before heading east toward Chicago. Close to three hours of slow orders in between Reno, NV and Salt Lake City, UT currently cause Number 6 to regularly run anywhere between three and six hours late by the time they reach Denver. Arriving only two and a half hours late tonight, they were practically running early!

The back of Union Station has been nicely decorated with lights for the Christmas Season. Unfortunately, Amtrak stops too far to the east to be able to really capture both the train and the lights in the same shot.

Union Station is all ready for Christmas! The decorating crew, as always, did a wonderful job with the front of Union Station looking down 17th Street in Denver. I particularly like the Christmas Tree of lights on the flag pole in the front.

The Beer Run, with extremely colorful power, accelerates west past the signal bridge at DS004. The two units on the point will be left in Golden as the Golden Switcher. The second two units will be used for the Beer Train power and will return later in the day with the eastbound train.
