A pair of units sit on the tail end of a westbound oil train. These DPUs will assist the 6,600 foot train on the journey west to Utah. And, perhaps more importantly, on the journey east.

A pair of UP SD70Ms...the same that the Rocky Mountaineer has borrowed for the last few seasons...are once again leading the Rocky Mountaineer west across the Belt Line. It is currently passing Copeland Lake just east of I-25.

The Sunday Rocky Mountaineer is headed west across the Belt Industrial Lead, working on getting out of Denver for its journey west to Moab. The train passes through some pretty industrial areas before getting to the western suburbs, leaving the city behind.

This Phase 2 SD70M is crossing over the South Platte River as the fourth unit on an eastbound (soon to be northbound) manifest. The top of the unit has definitely seen some better days as rust has set in across the gray.

A quartet of elephant-style units, two EMD and two GE, lead the MNYGR across a relatively full South Platte River on the Belt Industrial Lead. This is a single track, CTC line that connects North Yard (and the Moffat) with 36th Street (and the Greeley Sub).

An SD70ACe leads UP's MNYGR (Manifest from North Yard, CO to Green River, WY). The length of train varies from day-to-day. This Sunday morning, the train is an impressive 142 cars long. Over 8,000 feet in length, including the power. Here, the train is making its way across the Belt Industrial Lead, passing by the Stock Yards and about to cross over York Street.

This UP manifest, which just ran south on the Greeley Sub, is nearing the end of its trip to North Yard. The train is about to cross over the Moffat Sub at the diamond here at Utah Jct. The track in the foreground, the Moffat Sub, is the track the Zephyr uses twice daily between Union Station and the Rockies. UP 7855 will be taking their train in to Yard Track 5. They will cut the engines off the train and run them to "the pit" for servicing.

At Utah Jct, UP 7855 crosses over BNSF's "New North Main" on its way in to North Yard. BNSF's New North Main continues north on the other side of the diamond to BNSF's Front Range Subdivision, which runs north to Cheyenne. This diamond is one of the very few stretches of CTC for BNSF trains anywhere between Denver and Cheyenne.

Wanted to grab a quick roster shot of UP 6294 specifically because, under that yellow paint scheme, you'd find scarlet and gray. Indeed, the AC4400CW started life as SP 241. This summer, the unit celebrates its 29th birthday, as it was originally delivered in June of 1995.

UP 7855 is slowing toward a stop on the Belt Industrial Lead. They do not have a route in to the yard yet, so the engineer will bring the train to a stop just east of Washington Street so as not to block any grade crossing while waiting to get in to North Yard.

The Belt Industrial Lead, which connects North Yard to 36th Street Yard and the Greeley Sub, also has quite a few connections to local industries along the way. You can see two tracks that curve north toward industries in the area. Meanwhile, UP's MGRNY (Manifest, Green River, WY to North Yard, CO) approaches on the main train.
