A pacing shot of BNSF 5295 leading the "stinky slinky" north on UP's Greeley Subdivision. The last thing Colorado needs right now, more rain, build in the thunderstorms to the east.

BNSF trains running from Denver to northern Colorado are not unusual. BNSF trains doing this on UP's Greeley Sub are unusual! Due to the closure of the Front Range Sub after flooding a week earlier, the Galveston, TX to Bonneville, WY (G-BNVGAT4-19A) "stinky slinky" molten sulfur train still needs to run. So, a BNSF road pilot (familiar with the Greeley Sub) got on board with a BNSF crew and took this train north.

In Cheyenne, the train will use the transfer track to move back to BNSF property and continue to Bonneville.

We are getting very close to the fields around town getting nice a green. For now, the ZLADV passes by a still-mostly brown field with UP 2002 second up in the consist. The Z-Train had eight auto racks up front, but the rest of the train was trailers and containers.

Just north of Fort Lupton, the ZLADV one of the engines on the train made for a nice treat! While it unfortunately was not leading, UP 2002, wearing special paint for the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake, looked great in the setting sun.

After an extraordinarily wet summer in June and July, August has definitely dried out the front range of Colorado and the green fields are starting to fade to their more-common yellow-brownish. Meanwhile, a two-thirds auto train, one-third manifest makes its way south toward Fort Lupton.

Are you a fan of contrast in pictures? If so, then check out the stark contrast between the amber waves of grain and the storm-ridden skies to the east in this shot of the MNPNY being led by UP 1989 just north of Fort Lupton.

UP's ZLADV heads down the Greeley Sub through Fort Lupton. A very interesting mix of power on the train. A Phase 2 SD70M leads up the train followed by an SD70ACe, and ES44DC and an AC4400CW. The AC4400CW was so dirty that, from a distance, I have to admit I thought it was an Espee unit at first!

It is the last day of Winter for 2009-2010 and the grass is slowly starting to turn green again. A southbound manifest passes through a field just north of Fort Lupton, CO
