However, the project proved to be too expensive, so it resulted in one very long siding, and three sidings overall in the canyon. Allen, toward the east end, is 14,250 feet long. Shoshone is very short at 3,960 feet, and almost connects to Allen, separated only by a short tunnel. The trees on the opposite side of the Colorado River were burned in the massive Grizzly Creek fire in August 2020. The fire consumed nearly 30,000 acres. In addition to the tracks and the Colorado River, the canyon contains I-70. This was one of the final major pieces of the interstate system to be completed. Although the local is named the Minturn Local, it has been decades since it actually ran to Minturn. Now, the town of Gypsum, which is on the far west end of Tennessee Pass is as far east as it runs. If you look close, you can see empty coal hoppers in the siding at Chacra. These hoppers have been sitting in the siding here for at least 6-8 months, and possibly longer! On December 30, however, UP 3000 led a westbound train from Denver to Grand Junction. The power was wyed in Grand Junction and UP 3000, along with an SD70M, was added to the point of an eastbound coal load! The duo, along with the standard DPU compliment in the middle and end of the train, made the trip back east on New Year's Day 2021, see here leaving the siding at Lacy after the eastbound Zephyr ran around the train.
