One thing that does seem to be in storage here is a long string of refrigerated box cars. They are in the upper yard at Helper. You can see there is a small slope up to those yard tracks. And of the ones they do have, even fewer are EMD's SD70ACe-T4. The units are mechanically complex and expensive to maintain. UP 3069 is an example of one such unit. Not the long hood that does not have the slants that of a normal SD70ACe. Additionally, there are three radiator fans instead of two. I actually lucked out and caught a meet between a westbound load on Main 1 and an eastbound empty on Main 2. Unfortunately, the shop hasn't really been used in years as Utah Railway has essentially stopped running trains over Soldier Summit. It now focuses on the manifest market between Provo and Ogden. With the demise of coal, however, Utah Railway has all but abandoned everything here in Helper. The doors on the engine facility have been closed for years now, silence filling the area. The mainline is the track immediately to the left of the engine facility. I always thought it was interesting how the mainline passed right next to the building. Hoppers either waiting to go to Wildcat for loading, or hoppers that had been loaded and were waiting to head west over Soldier Summit. Now, the yard at Martin is filled with tank cars. Cars that will go to Wildcat to be loaded with oil, or some that already have oil and are waiting to head west of Soldier Summit. The reporting marks, UTWX, indicate Wildcat Midstream Partners, a company that operates the Wildcat oil transloading facility on the Utah Railway. The old Arizona and Eastern must be used for that. The G&W bought Utah Railway in August 2002. The G&W owns dozens of shortline railroads in the United States. In addition to Utah Railway, the Arizona and Eastern is another example of a railroad the G&W owns. An A&E GP8 sits, shut off, near the engine facilities here at the Martin Yard in Helper.
