Last night, a semi truck (reportedly hauling milk) cross the grade crossing in from of the eastbound Zephyr. The train struck the truck, derailing both engines and several cars. This Z-train, which originated in Chicago and is headed for Denver, is the hottest train that runs in to Denver on either UP or BNSF. Amtrak actually ran through the siding at Keensburg so the Z-train could get back up to track speed more quickly once the Zephyr cleared. The train departed Emeryville, CA almost 10 hours late, and lost more time enroute. The train is trying to make up time as best it can, moving along at track speed as it passes by the frozen pond. Particularly with the appearance of JB Hunt containers. However, this is actually a "Q" train that originated in Alliance, TX and is headed for Portland, OR, by way of Denver. The bridge over US-85 has been complete. However, as you can clearly see, the new overpass crossing the tracks has not yet be built. The project is slated to be completely in late 2023. The train is slowing for the grade crossing at MP 29.99 (County Road 22). A previous train reported that the main lights and gates were working, but the lights on one of the gates were broken off and hanging down. Consequently, an "XH" order was placed on the crossing. The lead SD70M is one of the first ones delivered in the massive order of 1000 units. The second is a "Phase 2" SD70M, denoted by the slightly slanted radiator intakes.
