Amtrak has started applying the Phase 7 scheme to its Superliners. The required repainting is not nearly as complex as it is for the P42DCs. Here, a coach car has received the new Phase 7 stripe along its side. Not drastically different from the previous scheme.

Always enjoy it when Amtrak's Operation Lifesaver unit, AMTK 203, makes an appears on the Zephyr. It was second out on the westbound train this Sunday morning, running about 90 minutes late as it passes by North Yard.

There are three trains either on the move or ready to go in this shot on this Sunday morning. The California Zephyr is, of course, on the move on the Moffat mainline with AMTK 171 and AMTK 203 for power. Behind the Zephyr is UP's MNYGR, ready to depart North Yard to head to the Greeley Sub and head north to Cheyenne before headed to Green River, WY. Another train that will also head through Cheyenne on its journey is BNSF's Denver-Laurel manifest. The BNSF manifest will, of course, head north on the Front Range Sub. The train has received its track warrant and, after the Zephyr and the MNYGR depart, it will be BNSF's turn.

The westbound Zephyr got trapped in Union Station this morning by BNSF's Denver-Laurel manifest. The manifest was working on pulling out of the yard, but the air test and DPU linking took longer than expected, and the Buck Lead was blocked by the manifest. Once the manifest cleared, the Zephyr could depart. In this shot, the BNSF Denver-Laurel is to the left of the Zephyr. The Zephyr is now on the Moffat main, the only track under CTC jurisdiction in this shot, as it passes by CP DS002.

The westbound Zephyr, running just a few minutes behind schedule, passes by a clear (green) signal at CP DS002. North Yard has a fair amount of cars in the background. The empty track alongside the Zephyr is BNSF's "New North Main". All other tracks in the foreground are owned by UP.

The westbound Zephyr, running just a few minutes late, approaches the signal at CP DS002. The Zephyr, just two miles west of Denver Union Station, has UP's North Yard on its left (right side of the picture) and BNSF's Denver intermodal yard, Rennicks, on its right (left side of the picture). A slew of JB Hunt trailers, among others, wait to either be loaded on a train, or picked up by a truck to proceed to their destinations. The track the Zephyr is on is the only track that is signaled and has CTC (and PTC) in this shot. All the other tracks are in "yard limits" and are not signaled.

20 years ago, who would have thought that one day you could find a pair of (very colorful) Kansas City Southern units leading a Union Pacific military special on the former DRGW mainline in North Yard!
