In the 1990s and early 2000s, Amtrak tried to help supplement revenue by hauling bulk mail and packages as well. Such things were hauled in box cars painted in Amtrak's Phase 4 scheme. Amtrak stopped the service in October 2004 as it was not actually generating a profit, and was delaying passenger trains due to freight moves at certain stations. The detector ensure that nothing is sticking out from the train that might strike a tunnel or tunnel wall. No defects this morning as the train continues toward Denver. As we move closer to summer, the heat has been increasing, and UP has been putting out a lot of 10 MPH slow orders due to the possibility of sun kinks in the rails. The Norfolk Southern unit is called a "catfish" as the white stripes on the black unit kind of give the appearance of a catfish. As the train rolls by, the owner of the field works to mow the grass. BNSF and UP both run oil trains on the Moffat that load at the Wash transload facility near Wellington, UT. UP seems to run a few more trains than BNSF, but catching either is not uncommon.
