After a brief delay for a coal trains (whose crew was running short on time) at Arvada, the Zephyr is only off schedule by about ten minutes. Indeed, it had been leading from Chicago to Denver. However, mechanical issues caused the unit to be taken off in Denver and replaced with the "auxiliary unit" that is kept in town. The (partially obscured) manifest in the foreground is the MRONY. Off in the distance, you can see the last three Superliners on the Zephyr. If the Zephyr had been 45 seconds slower or the MRONY 45 seconds faster, I could have had a nice shot of both trains. This particular coal empty went into to North Yard instead of running through one of the bypass tracks. This was likely done either because it was having power issues or the power arrangement needed to be changed. The train started in Cook, IL and is headed for the Bowie Mine on the North Fork Branch.
