After months of no apparent progress on the second main track west of C&S Junction, UP has gotten its tail in gear in the past few weeks. In this shot, the MNYGJ is heading west on the existing Main (future Main 1) as a tamper sits on future Main 2. BNSF's Golden Sub is on the right side of the picture. You can also see the new signals (turned to the side and not yet activated) for C&S Junction.

The power on this BNSF Provo-Denver manifest has seen better days all the way around! The train is approaching the Sheridan Blvd overpass. In about five years, this shot will include two main tracks and an RTD Light Rail overpass.

Worn paint, graffiti, burn marks, rust and dirt...the sign of a true rail warrior! It seems that Colorado has been blessed with Warbonnets lately, despite its age showing right through, this Sunday was no exception!

This is the second of two Warbonnets on BNSF's QPVDVJ coming in to Denver on this February morning. It has seen better days, but at least it is still a Warbonnet!

At the west switch of Leyden, an eastbound (empty) ballast train enters the siding. It was so fantastic seeing a trio of SD70Ms...my personal favorite model EMD has released since the SD40-2. This particular ballast train came from the area around Tunnel, CO (near Grand Junction) and is headed for Cheyenne, probably for a refill!

The MNYGJ on the main was originally set to go west at Leyden but DS-86 asked if they could stop before reaching the west signal at Leyden. The crew said they could and DS-86 took the signal down. Slide fences was the reason for doing so. Slide fences had DS-82's territory a bit messed up so a few eastbounds needed to run before the manifest could continue west.

The third train of the morning on the Moffat and not one of them has been a coal train! The eastbound MRONY-25 is heading for the west switch of Leyden. It will run through the siding and continue on to North Yard.

Increasingly, UP is running manifest on the Moffat with DPUs. This Sunday was no exception as a sole C44AC-CTE brings up the rear of the eastbound Roper to Moffat manifest.

DS-82 has put the MNYGJ in the siding at Rocky to allow a late (by 2 1/2 hours) California Zephyr to run around on the mainline. Here, the manifest is stopped on the siding and Amtrak is proceeding west on clear signals. This is the first picture in a series of four. Here is the second picture in the series.

It has been a busy morning on the Moffat and this is the fourth train to leave Denver in the past two hours! This particular coal empty went into to North Yard instead of running through one of the bypass tracks. This was likely done either because it was having power issues or the power arrangement needed to be changed. The train started in Cook, IL and is headed for the Bowie Mine on the North Fork Branch.

How many trains do you see in this picture? If your first reaction is "only one", look again! As a coal empty approaches the intermediate signal below Rocky, the MNYGJ proceeds west (geographically north) on the mainline at Clay way off in the distance.
