The westbound Zephyr just rolled through the grade crossing at Blue Mountain Drive and is now passing the detector at MP 22.6, near the base of Coal Creek Canyon. In the foreground is the west portal of Tunnel 1, which the Zephyr will be merging from in just a few minutes.

On a frigid December morning, an eastbound BNSF manifest winds its way through the S-curves at the base of Coal Creek Canyon. You can see the back half of the train, descending from Tunnel One in the distance. The detector at MP 22.6 revealed the temperature to be 14°F.
