It is actually rather amazing just how many classic passenger cars are in the United States that are now privately owned! 21 of them were on this chartered train, headed for Spokane, WA for an AAPRCO (American Association of Private Rail Car Owners) convention. This would be one heck of a ride, traveling over very rare passenger mileage. Originally, I had planned to chase the train north to Cheyenne and beyond. However, another train caught my attention instead...see the next picture in the gallery!

Amtrak P40DC #822, wearing the 40th Anniversary "Phase III" paint scheme, leads the High Iron Travels excursion train north along the diagonal north of Boulder. The 21-car train is headed for a private rail car owner convention in Spokane, WA. Nice to see Amtrak lending out such a classy unit to lead the train.

It appears as though BNSF probably used some heavy rubber-tired equipment when making repairs to the track here. There is plenty of evidence of large machinery making its way around in the area.

There was some minor damage to the tracks not too far north of Jay Road along the diagonal highway. Fortunately, BNSF was able to implement repairs quickly to this one.
