A local had a warrant on the track ahead, but just cleared it up. That allowed the special here to get a new warrant to proceed from the current location up to Loveland, where the train will be turned over to the Great Western Railway. It quickly fell to being four hours late not far west of Chicago. By the time it made it Denver, it was nearly seven hours late! Here, at 4:15pm, the train is finally heading west on Main 1 between C&S Junction and Arvada. An Amtrak P42DC was part of the problem, and had to be removed in favor of this BNSF ES44DC. The unit has been rebuilt into a C44ACM (or, as BNSF designates it, an AC44CM). There is a push by both UP and BNSF to convert older DC units into AC units.
