It has been quite awhile since I've chased anything on the Limon Sub, mainly because trains run so incredibly infrequently. I was happy to have the opportunity to get a shot of the Limon Local as it crosses West Bijou Creek, which is completely dry at the moment. The west half of this bridge was rebuilt a little over five years ago. The blocky concrete bridge is the result of the rebuild.

That's a lot of autoracks! Union Pacific has made the decision to no longer use the KP as a through route. Due to the current downturn in the economy, a lot of cars are heading for storage. The siding at Byers has a string of autoracks stored in it. Agate has spine cars stored, and Buick has well cars stored. The cars on this train will be stored on the main at Jim, between Cheyenne Wells and Sharon Springs. The only trains the KP will see for the foreseeable future will be the Limon Local and an occasional grain shuttle to either Byers or Cheyenne Wells.

This train has outrun most of the clouds, creating some rather harsh lighting conditions as the sun has moved more toward the western sky. The coal load is approaching the west switch of Byers. There is a clear signal and the train has a track warrant to continue heading east toward Sharon Springs, KS (the next crew change point) and points beyond.
