With very few exceptions, every railroad in the United States, Canada, and Mexico owned at least a few SD40-2s. And now, 40 years later, railroads are still rebuilding them and keeping them on the roster. Granted they are used for switching and local work more often than in mainline service now, but it still cool to see them on the rail. How much longer will that last? BNSF activated (and renumbered) their SD75Ms and SD75Is, the majority of which still wear the Warbonnet scheme. The scheme, and the "Heritage 2" scheme, were both developed as tributes to the Great Northern, one of the original railroads that merged to form Burlington Northern. BNSF bought several former leaser units from GATX Locomotive Rail Group (similar to this unit) and rather than spending the money to completely repaint the units, they matched the colors and applied their logo.
