Multiple tracks and dispatchers are involved. Union Station has "stub tracks", meaning there is only an exit in one direction. Consequently, the Zephyr must back in to the station. Here, the morning Zephyr is backing down the Buck Lead by BNSF's engine facility, underneath Park West Avenue. Note Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies, in front of the Denver skyline. This unit was delivered in April of 1989 to Santa Fe. Many of its brothers have turned in to parts donors for units like 573 that are still active. The truck is also missing an axle. The axle is being replaced (with a new traction motor). Once the axle is secured back on the truck, the front of the GP39-3 will be lifted off the ground and the truck will be rolled in place underneath it.
