20 years ago, taking a picture from this spot would have yielded a sea of green Burlington Northern units. Makes you wonder what it will look like in another 20 years!

I can't help but post a shot like this that shows two units, both of which are wearing now-outdated paint scheme! BNSF 652 has some rapidly-fading Warbonnet paint and BNSF 965 which is in sporting the original Heritage scheme.

After departing Union Station right on time at 8:10pm, the eastbound Zephyr passes by a rather large puddle of water along the Passenger Lead. This is a great time of year to get pictures as the sun is still up long enough to get some shots of Amtrak 6 as it departs eastbound.

A southbound BNSF coal drag starts it journey south from Denver toward the Joint Line. A Herzog work train rests idle alongside the train, awaiting its next assignment.

Warbonnets anyone? The Beer Run is currently being powered by a pair of (great-looking) SD75Is. I have been wanting to catch them and was glad they showed up at the yard while I was there on this day.

More and more I'm taking the time to shoot (and post) roster shots of classic EMD power. Month after month, more and more SD40-2s are being put into storage if not being retired altogether. This SD40-2 is working the Salt Mine switch job at the Denver yards.

This BNSF Jordan Spreader - which is typically kept in Clovis, NM - visited Denver for a short time after a Spring Blizzard dumped up to two feet of snow in places along the Rockies.

A Kansas City Southern Retro-Belle SD70ACe hangs out near the house at BNSF's 38th Street Yard. A bit of snow has piled up on the front of the unit.

It's not easy getting a shot of Amtrak using the Passenger Lead to back into Union Station. This is because #6 (the eastbound Zephyr) is the only one of the two Zephyr's to use it. And it is typically well past nightfall by the time it is using it. But arriving 45 minutes early was key in helping me get this shot! The Zephyr is backing down the lead into Union Station.

Is there something a little bit odd looking about this GP50? The cab perhaps? You'd be correct! This is one of only five such units built and sent to Burlington Northern. The GP50 is equipped with a "crew cab" that can comfortably seat five crew members. I've been very fortunate with these units as this is the third of the five that I've manage to shoot!

The older units that are being placed into storage or are flat out being retired are being replaced with these! The GE ES44AC is becoming more and more prevalent on coal trains everywhere. Quite the change from five years ago when SD70MACs ruled all BNSF coal trains.

An SD40-2 and a GP38-2...nothing too terribly exciting. However, with the slow down in the economy and an increase in the number of units railroads are placing in storage, who knows how much longer these two units - currently used for switching - will be online!

A good-looking Heritage C44-9W. This is probably my favorite BNSF scheme (save for the Warbonnet!) ... the H2 isn't bad, but it has a bit too much yellow for my taste. I must admit the New Image is growing on my too, but this is the best.

One of my favorite engines...the SD45-2! Actually, while it still looks like an SD45-2 on the outside, the insides have been completely "revamped" and it is now an SD40-2 under the hood. A 16-cylinder engine and 3,000 horsepower. Still looks pretty sharp in the New Image scheme though.

This is the engine that was beat out by General Electric's P42DC to replace the F40PH. Amtrak received several of these units for use (as the name implies) in California. It is a rare find to find one of these outside that west coast state.
