BNSF 521 has been working on locals in the Denver area for well over a year. I've seen it on the Beer Run as well as on the Longmont Switch. The tracks used to end near I-70 overpass in the distance. The project added another 2,500 feet to each track. Here, a Lincoln, NE-bound eastbound departs the yard on a clear signal. The train is running on a new track just put in this year (2015) as part of a project to increase the length of BNSF's coal tracks. This signal, once put in service, will dictate train movement into the yard from the main track (or just continuing down the main track). BNSF is sinking some money in the east end of the yard in 2015. The tracks called "Coal 1" and "Coal 2" (where westbound coal train will typically stop to recrew) are being extended. They will be long enough to support 140-car trains when construction is complete. As part of the construction, a new signal bridge has been installed!
