A westbound BNSF manifest, led by a trio of Heritage 2 C44-9Ws, approaches the yard in Denver. The train has a diverging restricting signal ahead (red over flashing red) to allow it to enter the yard and leave the Brush Sub behind.

This power has just about everything you can ask for in 2016! You got some GE and you got some EMD. You got some Warbonnet paint, some Heritage 2 paint, and some New Image paint. Newer power and older power. And it's always cool to catch nine units on the point of any train!

Always good to catch a Warbonnet, although sad to see this particular Warbonnet on this train. BNSF 521 has been working on locals in the Denver area for well over a year. I've seen it on the Beer Run as well as on the Longmont Switch. Time to say farewell for now as it departs for Lincoln, NE. Perhaps, with a little luck, it'll find its way back to Denver.

A trio of freshly rebuilt, freshly painted GP60M-3s were on the Denver-Lincoln train this Sunday afternoon. Not too often that units this shiny appear in Denver. The GP60 is my favorite geep since the GP30, so I like seeing this units getting a second life!

A freshly rebuilt, freshly painted BNSF GP60M-3. This unit was rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen. Always great to get a picture of a freshly painted unit.

BNSF has completed a project to extend its two coal tracks in Denver to the east. The tracks used to end near I-70 overpass in the distance. The project added another 2,500 feet to each track. Here, a Lincoln, NE-bound eastbound departs the yard on a clear signal.

BNSF's Denver to Lincoln manifest was not short on power on this Sunday morning! Cut in the middle of the six units actually online were a trio of GP60M-3s. These are rebuilds by Morrison-Knudsen. Always good to see older power being rebuilt and reused.

DPUs on a westbound coal load pass underneath a brand new signal bridge on the east edge of BNSF's Denver yard. The train is running on a new track just put in this year (2015) as part of a project to increase the length of BNSF's coal tracks. Another new track will be laid (to the left of these two in the shot) later this year.

A new signal that is not yet active as been installed at the east end of BNSF's Denver Yard. This signal, once put in service, will dictate train movement into the yard from the main track (or just continuing down the main track). I wasn't thrilled with the lighting in this shot, but decided it was worth it with the KCS Retro-Belle in the shot.

A BNSF SD70ACe and a KCS ES44AC lead a westbound coal load down the main just outside BNSF's Denver Yard. BNSF is sinking some money in the east end of the yard in 2015. The tracks called "Coal 1" and "Coal 2" (where westbound coal train will typically stop to recrew) are being extended. They will be long enough to support 140-car trains when construction is complete. As part of the construction, a new signal bridge has been installed! The signal on the left will be for the main and the other two signals for Coal 1 and Coal 2.

General Electric uses this dynamometer test car out on the road when it is testing new/prototype locomotives. Case-in-point is here, as the car is going along with GECX 2022 (new Tier 4 GEVO prototype) enroute to Pueblo, CO

The Galesburg, IL to Denver, CO mixed freight has just about reached its destination! The train just knocked down the triple signal at 48th Avenue, the entrance in to BNSF's Denver Yard.
