This southbound grain train round the curve from the east edge of Chatfield Reservoir. You can actually get a pretty clear view of the tracks climbing the grade, a slight angle compared to the reservoir wall.

A pair of SD70ACes lead a southbound coal load on Main 1 at Acequia. Off in the distance, you can see Longs Peak, of the four "Front Range" 14ers. This time of year, this area appears to be somewhat bleak as there are no leaves to be found on the trees. However, this is also a fantastic scene for fall colors, usually in October.

The lighting at 9:30am at the start of October is about as good as you can get along Main 1 just south of Acequia on the Joint Line. A very unique variety of colors, all very unusual in Colorado, on the point of this ethanol train.

Near the north end of the Joint Line, a southbound BNSF coal train is taking on the ruling grade for the climb to Palmer Lake. The second unit on the head end, an SD70MAC, is burping up a bit more (visible) exhaust than is normal.

A southbound coal load skirts the west edge of Highlands Ranch, CO as a fresh crew takes the train up grade on Main 1. There are a few trails in this area near Acequia that tend to see a lot of joggers and bicyclists.

Being the main that is further away from US-85, it can be easy to overlook it to a certain extent sometimes along the stretch south of Littleton. But when you do stop and check it out, it is well worth it! A southbound BNSF coal train is pulling hard on Main 1 (former DRGW main, now UP main), running south on the climb to Palmer Lake along the Rockies.
