Archer Curve is a fantastic spot for checking out both eastbounds and westbounds with decent light for most of the day. In this shot, an eastbound manifest (with an interesting single DPU cut into the middle of the train) climbs the grade on Main 2.

Even though it is only shortly after 2pm, it feels much later as the sun is already getting low in the western November sky. The winter season is a time for short days and rich light!

After spending some time switching in the yard at Cheyenne, this eastbound is now on the move on Main 2 at Archer Curve. The train is sporting an all-EMD (all-SD70) consist on the head end.

A single SD70ACe brings up the tail end of an eastbound double stack train on Main 2 east of Cheyenne. Even though there are (at least) two main tracks all the way from Cheyenne, WY to North Platte, NE, there are still a few sidings from time to time. The track in the foreground here is a 6,045 foot long siding off of Main 2.

An eastbound double stack on Main 2 rolls toward the I-80 Business Loop overpass east of Cheyenne on the Sidney Sub. The (new) crew on this train will take the train east to Bailey Yard in North Platte, NE.

UP 844 comes around the curve at Archer on a FREEZING cold morning in Cheyenne. It was about 25°F out with sustained winds of 25 MPH. However, it was all worth it to get this shot right here. Far and away the best shot of UP 844 that I have taken to date.

UP 844 leads up the Valley Eagle train which is headed for Harlingen, Texas. This is the first run from the steam program in 2010. The crews on the UP 844 was putting on a great show coming around the curve at Archer.

A westbound unit pipe trains passes underneath Pershing Blvd just east of the S-Curve at Archer. This train would ultimately spoil the "ideal" shot I had in mind with UP 844. The pipes are headed for Elko, NV.

I was in Cheyenne to shoot UP 844 when on the scanner I hear reference to "UP 844....7"! Turns out UP 8447 was leading this double stack as it met another double stack here at Archer.

An eastbound manifest headed for North Platte, NE leaves Cheyenne behind as it hits the double track main of the Sidney Sub. The SD9043MAC is the sole DPU on this eastbound.

One of the many daily manifests that the Overland Route sees makes its way past Archer a few miles east of Cheyenne. This is the Roper, UT to North Platte, NE daily manifest.

UP's passenger special - moving their business cars from Oakland, CA back to Council Bluffs, IA - heads east through the S-Curves on Main Two at Archer. UP 1995 was just an added bonus on this great looking train.
