The high winds blew out some of the overcast skies of the morning. Additionally, the winds kept my drone grounded for much of a day. It was rather nice using a DSLR trackside for some shots of this interesting short line operation. Here, a pair of SD40s leads a westbound NKCR manifest between Brandon and Venango. There is not a lot to see in Brandon, although there is a rather large grain elevator. One challenge certainly can be just finding a train. Short lines often have a lot of track and only one or two trains operating on any given day. However, once you find one, it is usually pretty easy to get ahead of it as speeds are lower and stops for switching are frequent. Cows are grazing in the field in the distance just west of the town of Grant, NE. There are major winds on the plains this afternoon, and the clouds are zipping rapidly through the skies.
