A single SD70ACe brings up the tail end of an eastbound coal load at the east end of Chacra. The scenery heading east toward Glenwood (and Glenwood Canyon) is looking pretty good!

An eastbound UP coal load crosses underneath I-70 and follows along the Colorado River at the east end of Chacra. If you look close, you can see empty coal hoppers in the siding at Chacra. These hoppers have been sitting in the siding here for at least 6-8 months, and possibly longer!

After getting through canyon west of Glenwood Springs, the Zephyr reaches Chacra and the start of Grand Valley. The landscape opens up, allowing for much higher speeds for trains. Here at east end of Chacra, the Zephyr passes by some brilliant fall colors as it picks up speed. It will go 70+ MPH for much of the remaining trip to Grand Junction.
