Chem Spur was used to serve an oil company in western Arvada for years. Most recently, it was Mesa Oil. However, Mesa Oil recently moved to a new location, leaving the industry in Arvada abandoned. The spur has essentially been rusting for a few years now, weeds starting to overtake the rails. On this day, UP had a single piece of equipment sitting on the spur.

Adding a little color to the shot, the GrandLuxe Rail Express passes near Chem Spur. The newest car on the train, the "Great Dome Lounge" is a beautiful addition to the train.

Moffat Tunnel (UP) Grand Luxe Express
Formerly known as the American Orient Express (and now the GrandLuxe Rail Express) heads west for the second (of seven) days spent along the rails between Denver and San Francisco. Unlike in 2005 (the last time the train ran west on the Moffat), this year the train is led by three (leased) P42's instead of just two.

BNSF 4828 brings up the back end of BNSF's Pueblo to Provo (HPUEPVO) trackage rights train. As is often the case, the train is dominated by tank cars with a just few pieces of general merchandise thrown in.

Just east of Chem Spur (along Highway 72), this eastbound BNSF manifest has a clear signal at Leyden to continue into town. The train is led by three new GEVOs (ES44AC's), BNSF 7548, BNSF 7549 and BNSF 7550.

The Ski Train, led by the Rio Grande Heritage Unit UP 1989, emerges from a thick fog that has engulfed the Denver-Metro area. By the time the train reaches Clay it will have climbed completely out of the fog.

It is very dark outside as the beginning of a massive blizzard start to settle in. The SD70M's lead the MNYPV-20 west in between Leyden and Rocky.
