A southbound BNSF intermodal train crosses the old Santa Fe bridge on the south edge of Larkspur. The lead units was the fifth ES44DC delivered to BNSF back in 2005. Ultimately, BNSF would take delivery on 721 such units.

This manifest is headed north on Main 2 just south of Larkspur. On this particular part of the Joint Line, Main 2 is (technically) owned by UP. UP also dispatches trains on Main 2, which still uses Track Warrants and ABS (Automatic Block Signals). BNSF has upgraded Main 1, which is now CTC.

BNSF 4992 and BNSF 8247 lead southbound over the classic Santa Fe bridge on the south side of Larkspur. The train is BNSF's Spokane, WA to Alliance, TX Q-train. Notes quite a few loads of lumber from the Pacific Northwest. The second half of the train is TOFC and COFC intermodal.

A pair of BNSF SD70ACes lead this southbound coal train across the old Santa Fe bridge on the south edge of Larkspur on a beautiful October morning. Unfortunately, this coal train had an ill-fated future as in 2 1/2 hours, it will derail just south of Bragdon when crossing over I-25. The crew on the train, thank God, will be okay. However, a semi truck driver, caught in the derailment, would not survive.

A northbound UP military train passes through the north edge of Larkspur. Unfortunately, the crew on the train only have 22 minutes before they are "dead on the law", unable to operate their train further. They'll ultimately have to stop on Main 2 in Castle Rock and wait for a recrew.

A trio of units serve as the rear DPU on this southbound coal load. The train is crossing over Spruce Mountain Road and West Fox Farm Road as it continues south toward Greenland. Spruce Mountain Road (on the left) is the road that will take cars further south to Palmer Lake.

Two UP units lead two FRA units south toward an approach (yellow) signal. The FRA inspection train is on the heals of a BNSF coal load, so running slow is going to be the order of the day. Note the red laser from underneath the last car, indicating the FRA is actively testing the track.

A very short train, consisting of two cars belonging to the FRA (Federal Railroad Administration), crosses over the classic Santa Fe bridge on the south edge of Larkspur. Indeed, nearly 30 years after the end of Santa Fe, lettering and heralds for Santa Fe can still be made out, though very faded.

Moving away from the camera, this southbound coal load has passed an intermediate signal (now red) in the distance on its way to Greenland and Palmer Lake. Note the black and yellow "35" sign, tilted at a roughly 45° angle. This indicates there is a speed change to 35 MPH maximum coming up. Not that such a speed limit is of any concern to this coal load, which is barely making 10 MPH with all units throttled to the max in run 8.

A slightly different view of a very commonly photographed bridge on the south edge of Larkspur. This Santa Fe bridge spans West Fox Farm Road (closer), East Plum Creek, and Spruce Mountain Road (distant). As is quite common on BNSF coal loads, a pair of DPUs, an SD70ACe and an ES44AC, bring up the tail end of this southbound.

A pair of pre-preduction ES44DCs, an ES44C4, and an SD40-2 lead BNSF's Denver-Provo manifest at Larkspur with a major summer thunderstorm developing as the backdrop. I assume the SD40-2 is returning to Pueblo after a 92-day inspection in Denver. The unit was online and loading, which was somewhat unexpected, but cool to see (and hear) nonetheless.
