Shots from the north side of the bridge are hard to get due to lighting, but the overcast skies made it possible on this June 1st. The bridge takes the tracks over West Fox Farm Road, East Plum Creek, and Spruce Mountain Road. When Rio Grande and Santa Fe were competing to build lines between Denver and Pueblo, Rio Grande started first and, as a result, got the "more friendly" alignment. The lead units was the fifth ES44DC delivered to BNSF back in 2005. Ultimately, BNSF would take delivery on 721 such units. On this particular part of the Joint Line, Main 2 is (technically) owned by UP. UP also dispatches trains on Main 2, which still uses Track Warrants and ABS (Automatic Block Signals). Unfortunately, this coal train had an ill-fated future as in 2 1/2 hours, it will derail just south of Bragdon when crossing over I-25. The crew on the train, thank God, will be okay. Indeed, nearly 30 years after the end of Santa Fe, lettering and heralds for Santa Fe can still be made out, though very faded. Note the black and yellow "35" sign, tilted at a roughly 45° angle. This indicates there is a speed change to 35 MPH maximum coming up. Not that such a speed limit is of any concern to this coal load, which is barely making 10 MPH with all units throttled to the max in run 8. This Santa Fe bridge spans West Fox Farm Road (closer), East Plum Creek, and Spruce Mountain Road (distant). As is quite common on BNSF coal loads, a pair of DPUs, an SD70ACe and an ES44AC, bring up the tail end of this southbound.
