Union Pacific installed a new signal here (on the left) about a decade ago, but still has yet to activate it. Instead, an old Rio Grande signal displays a green signal, indicating the next three blocks are unoccupied. This signal is visible for US-85, and I have specific memories of looking at this signal when I would go out train chasing with my dad when I was a kid. This old signal is specifically is very nostalgic for me!

This shot really puts into perspective the size of this hydrotreater, as well as the Schnabel car used to move it! The hydrotreater weighs 570 metric tons and is 115 feet long. It is also a bit wider than the average load, which is why signals and switch stands had to be (temporarily) removed at points along BNSF during the move. This was the largest item ever unloaded (to date) at the Houston Port Authority!

From a bluff just north of Sedalia, we get a good overall view of this special train. The hydrotreater being moved to Commerce City, CO came from Italy. It was said that the total cost of transportation (ship and rail combined) exceeded $3 million! Close to half that cost was just on BNSF alone.
