A new overpass is in the process of being built for Central Park Blvd. It isn't complete yet but it is complete enough that I could stand on the sidewalk and get this shot of a windmill train heading west on the Limon Sub. Once reaching Denver, the train will make an abrupt turn north and toward Cheyenne and the Overland Route for the trip to Utah.

Whether you like it or not, we are currently in the "New Energy Economy". A part of that new energy is wind power. And the way to move those components around is by rail! Here is a "windmill train" on it's way to Milford, UT from Hutchinson, KS. This train contains the tops of the windmills. The train is along the stretch of track between Havana Street and Ulster Street near the Stapleton Development.

Looks like a whole lot of power for not much train. In reality, the first two units (an ES44AC and an SD70M) are the only two even on, let alone loading. The six 40-series units trailing may well be headed for a torch. They've all been stored in a "dead line" at Burnham for the past six months. By comparison, UP 7814 is one of the newest units on UP's roster, having been delivered on March 8, 2008 - just over one month before this shot was taken!

15 years ago and this train would probably not be visible at its current location as it would be in a tunnel underneath a runway! Prior to the construction of Denver International Airport, Stapleton International Airport had north/south runways that went right over the tracks here. Today, the MDVSI-13 is starting its trek east across the plains.
