A nearly-matched trio (save for the burn on the side of the lead unit) of elephant style ES44ACs lead BNSF's Denver-Provo trackage rights train on the Moffat just east of Sheridan. The track next to the train is currently the Arvada Siding but soon it will be turned into Main 2. The new Arvada Siding is being built just to the left of BNSF Golden Sub near the right side of the picture.

Whether you like it or not, we are currently in the "New Energy Economy". A part of that new energy is wind power. And the way to move those components around is by rail! Here is a "windmill train" on it's way to Milford, UT from Hutchinson, KS. This train contains the tops of the windmills. The train is along the stretch of track between Havana Street and Ulster Street near the Stapleton Development.

A new overpass is in the process of being built for Central Park Blvd. It isn't complete yet but it is complete enough that I could stand on the sidewalk and get this shot of a windmill train heading west on the Limon Sub. Once reaching Denver, the train will make an abrupt turn north and toward Cheyenne and the Overland Route for the trip to Utah.

The new Central Park Blvd overpass really offers a great view of the Limon Sub to the west. This windmill train is approaching the Ulster Street grade crossing. The rails laying along the track will be used for in the upcoming (re)construction of the Limon Sub and RTD's commuter line to Denver International Airport.

The first half of this windmill train includes the tops of the windmills...the part that the blades of the windmill will attach to. The second half of the train contains the component that connects the top of the windmill to the base. Both halves can be seen here with the Rockies (including Longs Peak) in the distance.

This windmill train - headed for Milford, UT from Hutchinson, KS - is approaching the yard at 36th street. There, it will curve north and run on the Greeley Sub north to Cheyenne and the Overland. This shot was taken from the Clayton Street grade crossing.

A nice high contrast black and white shot to conclude the shots of this windmill special. The train is about to enter the yard limits of 36th street, leaving track warrant territory behind. The crew on the train brought the train in from the siding of Sable and will take the train all the way to Cheyenne.
