Amazing the things you sometimes find when you least expect too! It has been about four years since UP replaced the old Rio Grande signals (and control boxes) at Crescent with all-new equipment. Today, while scouting up around Pactolus (between Cliff and Rollins), I noticed the signal control shed for Crescent sitting about fifty feet away from the tracks amongst some trees!

Three mid-train helpers pass the lake at Pactolus on a unit CNW coal load bound for the KP line and points east. My dad told me that he and his family came up to Pactolus when he was a kid to go ice skating in the winter, although he doesn't specifically remember any trains!

A single SP AC400CW (#354) is the sole DPU on this westbound empty coal train. It is becoming harder and harder to find unpatched SP power.

There is a small lake along the tracks not far west of Cliff in the area known as Pactolus. This lake was once used for cutting ice blocks for shipment by rail, as well as for public ice skating. Now, however, it just sits along the Moffat main line. This coal empty passes a clear intermediate signal about a half mile east of tunnel 30.
