It has been about four years since UP replaced the old Rio Grande signals (and control boxes) at Crescent with all-new equipment. Today, while scouting up around Pactolus (between Cliff and Rollins), I noticed the signal control shed for Crescent sitting about fifty feet away from the tracks amongst some trees! My dad told me that he and his family came up to Pactolus when he was a kid to go ice skating in the winter, although he doesn't specifically remember any trains! This lake was once used for cutting ice blocks for shipment by rail, as well as for public ice skating. Now, however, it just sits along the Moffat main line.
