An SD70ACe leads a southbound coal around the bend on Main 1 toward downtown Sedalia. The town of Sedalia would be a grea one to live in as a railfan as downtown is sandwiched by the Joint Line. Main 1 on the south side of downtown and Main 2 on the north side.

Just north of Sedalia, a southbound BNSF coal load makes its way south on Main 1 of the Joint Line. Main 1 is now entirely CTC and is dispatched by BNSF. Main 2 is still ABS with track warrants and is dispatched by UP.

The final shot of 2016 for ColoradoRailfan.com! Just a few minutes prior to the sun dipping behind the Rocky Mountains, a southbound UP manifest pulls through Sedalia on Main 1. Honestly, I don't think I could have wound up with a better final shot for the year.

North Peterson Road winds lazily north along Main 2 just north of Sedalia. The far-busier highway US-85 is located off to the right, hidden by this northbound empty. When the train eventually returns to Colorado, it'll like have a pair of manned helpers added to the end to help up the climb to Palmer Lake.

A northbound rounds the curve on the west side of Sedalia, along the 3,200-foot-long Sedalia siding. The siding is too short to be of much use beyond the temporary storage of cars...as is the case on this afternoon.

About a month earlier, a northbound (empty) BNSF manifest derailed in Sedalia. All the cars remained upright, although the wheelset from one of the cars became dislodged and actually rolled down the main street in Sedalia and crashed in to the stone pillar at a gas station. Here, one of the tank cars involved in the derailment sits on the siding at Sedalia. If you look closely, you can see a dent in the end of the car (on the left side of the picture).

Never a dull moment on the Joint Line, a coal empty moves quickly north on Main Two while a coal load creeps slowly by on Main One, just north of Sedalia.

Sedalia marks the location where the two mains change ownerships. BNSF 4479 is passing the crossover between the two mains as it moves from UP-owned track to BNSF-owned track.

100 covered hoppers of grain work their way south with three elephant-style C44-9CWs. The second and third units wear the warbonnet paint scheme, the second of which is still an unpatched Santa Fe unit!

Just south of Sedalia along Highway 85, a BNSF northbound moves slowly through a slow order on main two. The coal empty has an unusual four units up front.

A southbound coal load creeps past this wonderful curve just north of Sedalia on the Joint Line. There are four SD70MAC's on the coal train and it is moving at a slow 14 MPH.

A rare GP40X (and the first one I have ever seen) was the fourth unit on a northbound manifest.

The South Local is backing down main one out of Sedalia to cross over to main two and return back to North Yard in Denver. On this day, DRGW 3109 is the second unit on the local in between UP 1900 and UP 1901, formerly DRGW 3154 and DRGW 3155, respectively.
