The Zephyr is moving west through the rather narrow canyon known as Little Gore Canyon. The train has just emerged from Tunnel 39 and is heading for the east portal of Tunnel 40, just ahead of the train out of the frame.

This was, by far, my favorite shot of the day on this particular outing. This is a shot I have wanted to get for years, but every time I make it up to this spot, either the weather or the trains are not cooperating. Today, however, the skies are crystal clear as the Westbound Zephyr approaches the east portal of Tunnel 39 and the start of Little Gore Canyon along the Colorado River.

The Westbound Zephyr has just passed the hotbox detector and MP 113.2 and is now about to duck in to Tunnel 39. This particular perspective requires a little bit of hiking down to an overlook from Trough Road. Not a bad hike at all...less than five minutes. And well worth it, I might add!

God's Country. Rain or shine, summer or winter, it is hard to beat the scenery of the Colorado Rockies! The Zephyr, about to enter Tunnel 39, is dwarfed by the vast valley around Azure in which the Colorado River can be found.

The westbound Zephyr wraps around the long curve east of Tunnel 39. After the train run through the roughly 300-foot-long tunnel, it will be in Little Gore Canyon.
