Valentines Day 1998 found EMD testing out their brand new 6000 HP SD90MAC's on the Moffat Tunnel Subdivision. UP 8502-8505 were pulling half a loaded coal train west. The end DPU unit was UP 8504, wearing a special scheme nicknamed "Shamu".

The first ever 4-stroke prime mover built by EMD went into the SD90MAC. The 6000 HP unit was brand new in 1998, and EMD was giving it a shake down on a loaded coal train on the Moffat. Here, UP 8503, UP 8502, and UP 8501 throttle up to head west out of the siding.
