A rather unique prospective of the siding of Clay on the Front Range, this picture was taken from about 40 feet up the side of the mountain looking south (geographically) as Amtrak 5, the westbound California Zephyr, comes through the block on the main track. Note the track ascending from Rocky approaching Big Ten curve in the background on the left side of the picture.

An eastbound coal load highballs west switch at Clay. A few years ago, the signals here would have been classic Denver and Salt Lake signals, but UP replaced them in a signal project in 2001 and 2002. Unpatched SP units are becoming harder and harder to find these days!

At the base of Coal Creek Canyon, the track snake around the base of the mountains. This coal train, which just passed the firehouse based on Blue Mountain Road, has less than five miles to go before it will be out on the open plains.

BNSF runs a total of four trains (two out of and two into) on the Golden branch between Denver and the Coors Brewing plant in Golden, CO. This is the evening Beer Run which is just crossing 44th avenue, entering the yard at Coors.
