Just a few minutes past midnight, the signal at the west end of Rollins gives a clear indication for a eastbound MPVNY which has just exited the east portal of the Moffat Tunnel. A full moon offers some illumination on the side of the control box. The green signal is for an eastbound MPVNY which is on the approach to Tolland. Along the right of way in the distance, the trees are lit by the headlight of the eastbound MPVNY. The ghost image of the train streaks past and the flashing lights of the crossing cast a red glow on the ground. And, of course, there is also the blinking FRED on the back of the train! At this location, you can get a nice shot of the front as well as the middle of a train (in the case of a coal train, anyway). Here is a shot from the same location in the day. Here, however, we see the train from front to back and then some! Light from the lead units wraps through the curves up toward tunnel one.
