Another westbound run of the GrandLuxe Limited at Blue Mountain. Seven GrandLuxe cars are actually placed on the end of Amtrak 5 for a slightly more luxurious trip west to Emeryville. The cars almost double the length of Amtrak, but it was still running with only two P42s on this morning.

A shot of the seven GrandLuxe Rail Journey cars that were placed on the end of Amtrak 5 to form the "GrandLuxe Limited". The cars are about to cross over Highway 72 at the base of Coal Creek Canyon. The building in the foreground is a Colorado Department of Transportation facility where they store salt/sand for the highway in the winter.

Wrapping around the curve at the base of Coal Creek Canyon, the cut does a nice job splitting up Amtrak 5 (at the front of the train) and the GrandLuxe Limited (at the back of the train). The head end of this westbound train is now facing (compass) east...just part of the trip up the Front Range!

At the end of the California Zephyr, seven GrandLuxe Rail Journey cars are being pulled along to form the GrandLuxe Limited. The cars look pretty good on the outside, and passengers on the inside are no doubt enjoying them too!
