The Front Range Sub has been the subject of several coal empty reroutes the last few days. One such reroute - headed for the Coal Creek Mine in Wyoming - passes by the station sign at Broomfield on the main track. Of course, the grungy SD70MAC with no nose herald was leading and the nice SD70ACe was second out!

After meeting a southbound manifest at Broomfield, this coal empty received a track warrant to continue north toward Wyoming. Due to maintenance on the Brush Sub, BNSF has been routing several coal empties up the Front Range Sub.

More and more these days, it seems that the last DPU unit on trains is facing toward the front of the train. I don't know if I just pay more attention when they face this way (since it is very annoying), but I guess you have to make the most outta what you get! Here, two SD70ACes bring up the tail end of a Powder River Basin reroute just north of Broomfield.

A BNSF coal empty (rerouted from the Brush Sub due to maintenance) in the foreground, the soon-to-be-demolished Storage Tek complex a bit further back, and Longs Peak standing tall over it all in the distance. Two new [isolated cab] SD70ACes push on the rear of the train as it starts the climb on the south face of Burke Hill.

About a mile and a half south of Broomfield, BNSF's Brownville, TX to Laurel, MT manifest is stopped on the main track and waiting. They are going to meet a southbound at Broomfield which is still nearly two hours away! So, to avoid blocking any crossing, the crew sits and patiently waits. This is a good place to stop as it is close to a new Super Target! Crew can go an get some shopping out of the way while waiting.

A northbound BNSF manifest sits on the main track near MP 12 on the Front Range Sub in the rapidly-fading light at the end of the day. A flock of birds makes its way west toward Church Range Lake.
