In brilliant morning light, an eastbound coal train makes its way through Little Ten Curve near the west end of Rocky. If only the lead unit had flags and wings! Still, I'm not complaining with the results.

Most of the trees have lost their color as this eastbound coal load slows to a stop in Arvada. The train will place all of its cars in the Arvada siding. From there, BNSF's Beer Run will pick up a block of 10-20 cars at a time to take to the Coors Brewery in Golden.

This coal train is pulling into the Arvada siding to drop off all 87 of its cars. The track in the foreground is the BNSF Golden Sub leading to the Coors Brewery (among other industries). The overpass in the background is Sheridan Blvd.

The Limon Sub had a couple of westbound trains stacked up on this Friday afternoon. The coal empty in the foreground is headed for the Bypass tracks at North Yard for a crew change. The headlight in the distance belongs to a local that is trying to make its way back to the 36th Street Yard.

An SW1500 brings out a loan tank car that will be spotted at an industry here in Arvada. In fact, the track leading to the industry is visible in the foreground. The "65/45" sign indicates speed limits for eastbound trains. 65 MPH for passenger, 45 MPH for freight.

After dropping off the tank car in the distance, this SW1500 charges back up the lead to the mainline. Once crews restore the switches, the switcher will make the five mile journey back to North Yard.

I always think it is worthwhile posting pictures of patched units. This AC4400CW was CNW 8829 up until June 2004 when it received its patch. Considering it has been 14 years since the UP/CNW merger, I'd say this unit is looking pretty darn good!

AC4400CW in your face! A westbound coal empty has a clear signal through Cliff as the unit approaches the grade crossing at Cliff. The train will continue west two more sidings (to Tolland) before stopping to meet the eastbound California Zephyr.

A trio of Heritage 2 C44-9Ws and a Warbonnet lead up BNSF's Provo to Denver manifest, sitting in the hole at Cliff. The conductor for the train is on the ground to give a roll by for the westbound coal empty on the main.
