Approaching the west switch of Leyden, this eastbound coal train will be holding the main at Leyden to meet the Zephyr and the MNYRO. The five inches of snow we were supposed to get the night before never materialized.

The last DPU on this eastbound coal load crosses over the Indiana Street overpass just west of the west switch of Leyden. The overpass still retains "Rio Grande" in fly letters!

A few minutes after the previous photo was taken, the westbound Zephyr crosses over Indiana Street. The Zephyr was holding in the siding at Leyden awaiting the arrival of the coal load. With trains at Plain and Rocky, the dispatcher had little choice but to run the coal train all the way to Leyden and briefly (less than five minutes) hold up the Zephyr.

With a clear signal at the west end of the siding, the MNYRO is charging west. The second unit on this morning was a patched CNW AC4400CW!

A day earlier, the MNYRO was badly under-powered (only three engines) and had a hard time climbing up the hill. It seems the Denver power desk was aware of this and today the MNYRO had five units - three on the point and two on the rear.
