However, it needs a lot of reinforcement before the Moffat is truly reopened. A few coal trains are running during darkness, but work crews still have the main out of service during the day. The main track is out of service between west Eisele (formerly Clay) and east Crescent. After getting permission from the EIC (Employee In Charge) of the OOS limits and getting flagged past the red signal at west Eisele, the unit heads for Plain. A single C44/60AC (formerly a 6000 HP AC6000CW) slowly navigates the S-Curves at Blue Mountain and the base of Coal Creek Canyon. The unit is headed for Plain where it will shuffle some cars around during the day before returning to North Yard in the evening. The train has been working at Plain for three weeks as part of the effort to repair the washed out fill between Tunnel 2 and Tunnel 3. The Moffat was closed on September 13th (Friday the Thirteenth!) when flood waters demolished the fill. Eight days earlier, UP opened the Moffat at night to a handful of coal trains. The fill still needed reinforcing though, so it has been 24 days since a train (other than a work train) ran on the Moffat.
