On a rather dark and gloomy morning, UP's westbound MNYRO (North Yard, CO to Roper, UT manifest) hits the main at Leyden on a clear signal. Back in 2005, the MNYRO and the MRONY frequently ran with SD70Ms. It seems that, as time has marched on, it has become easier for UP to just use extra AC (coal) power on the train.

BNSF's westbound HLINPVO (Lincoln, NE to Provo, UT manifest) only made it as far as Leyden before coming to a stop at a red signal. While stopped in the hole, UP DS-86 ran the MNYRO (North Yard, CO to Roper, UT manifest) around the BNSF trackage rights train on the main. Here, a trio of GEs lead said manifest as they approach the rear BNSF DPU.

At first glance, you might think this is a picture of a meet between two trains at Leyden. In fact, both of these trains are westbounds. The BNSF train got to Leyden first and went in to the siding (BNSF 5297 is the trailing DPU on the train). Never did hear why the BNSF train took the siding...perhaps it was simply the dispatcher running his own railroad's train around the competitors. But if that were the case, it seems like the BNSF train may have just been held at C&S Junction about seven miles to the east. The world may never know for sure!
