A BNSF SD70ACe (somewhat rare on the Moffat) leads up the eastbound Provo to Lincoln manifest at Carr Street in Arvada. DS-86 had originally held the train in the siding at Leyden. The plan was to wait there for Amtrak. However, it was decided the train could make it down to C&S Junction fast enough to avoid delaying Amtrak. The plan worked as the Zephyr had a clear signal by the time it reached Arvada.

One of my favorite pictures thus far in 2016! The westbound Zephyr makes its way past a clear signal at East Leyden. I decided to get a little artsy, though, and added some "tilt shift" to the image. Basically, the edges of the frame are a bit blurred to draw attention to the subject: Amtrak.

Some fellow railfans, both wearing Cumbres & Toltec shirts, happened to be at Leyden to greet the westbound Zephyr on this May morning. The offered up some waves and the Zephyr offered up a couple horn blasts! The Zephyr is running on clear signals and would have clear sailing for many miles to come. The next eastbound is also the Zephyr, west of Grand Junction when this picture was taken! Yep...the Moffat has slowed down.

After picking up the kids from school, I heard that a westbound was on the move, leaving North Yard. We went over to Leyden to get a few pictures. Turns out the train was the MNYPHX! This is the manifest that occasionally runs from North Yard to Phippsburg on the Craig Branch. While the branch line has been exceedingly quiet lately, it was good to see a decent-sized P-Burg local headed that way. There are still several customers in need of rail service on the line.

It is a bit of a hazy afternoon as this P-Burg Local heads west on the main at Leyden. A trio of SD70Ms lead the train, which is headed for Phippsburg, CO on the Craig Branch. Considering the lack of traffic on the Moffat of late, the crew should have zero issue getting to P-Burg on their hours of service.
