The westbound Winter Park Express has AMTK 193 on point this morning as the train knocks down a clear signal at Leyden. AMTK 156 (the Bloody Nose P42DC) will lead the train for the trip back to Denver in the evening.

As the days gets longer, the sun has been rising earlier, allowing for more light for shots like this one at Leyden. However, in two weeks when Daylight Savings Time starts, this scene will look much different. For now, the Winter Park Express kicks up snow at Leyden as the Denver skyline stands tall in the distance.

Every once in awhile, UP will send an unusual train over the Moffat. Typically a reroute of some sort. On this Sunday, a 108 car grain shuttle made its way down the east slope of the Moffat. An SD70ACe leads the shuttle out of the east end of Rocky on a clear signal.

An eastbound grain shuttle approaches the grade crossing at Simms Street. The 108 car train is an interesting mix of older covered hoppers and some very new hoppers as well.

A look at a very new covered hopper...this may in fact be its "maiden voyage" since being built. Incredible that each of these hoppers is capable of carrying 82 tons of grain!

An SD70ACe and an ES44AC bring up the tail end of this eastbound grain shuttle. The train, which is empty, has picked up quite a bit of speed since Leyden as track speed for freights increases to 45 MPH there.
