Loaded coal trains try not to stop between Tabernash and the Moffat Tunnel due to the steep grade. Trying to start on the grade can easily result in a broken coupler. This train is is creeping along at about 10 MPH at Vasquez Road in Winter Park.

As is typical, a single DPU (an ES44AC) brings up the tail end of this eastbound coal load in Winter Park. Soon the train will reach the apex of the summit in the tunnel and go in to dynamic brake mode.

The eastbound MRONY has a lot of power on the head end as it works up the grade to the east of Sulphur. Not all of the unit are actually online and loading.

I've always liked the view from the US-40 overpass just east of Sulphur. It is a great spot for eastbounds, particularly in the afternoon hours. Here is UP's Roper, UT to North Yard, CO manifest.

The eastbound Zephyr rolls along the Colorado River just west of Bond. The train is getting close to the east end of the Glenwood Springs Sub and will soon move over to the Moffat Tunnel Sub.
